Wear the trend - neon makeup
Go Day Glo
One of the hottest trends for spring is neon. But let’s face it, neon is not the easiest to wear and can be intimidating. No one wants to look like an extra from a 1980s music video. Here’s how to wear neon now.
While several companies like Chanel and Bobbi Brown have already done brights and ones that are wearable too, we’ll see even more as the season goes on. Pantone, the authority in color forecasting, has named the color of the year as Tangerine Tango. Pantone and their color predictions have become so synonymous with makeup that they will partner with Sephora this spring to launch a tangerine/orange-based makeup collection of their own.
To rock this trend, first take Bobbi Brown’s sage advice when she says "the most modern way to wear color is an accent on an otherwise nude face." We know she’s the best at understated makeup, but even she has gone bright with her new Neons ands Nudes line. But if you do as she says, and make it one part of your makeup, you can make it work for you.
The jolt of color is great especially for this season. You can achieve that with a nude eye and pop it with the color on the lip and vice versa. When creating the nude eye its nice to add definition to the eye with a liquid eyeliner, then apply a pop of bright neon lipgloss or lipstick to the lip.

A bright turquoise or teal liner. Taking inspiration from Dior and Loewe's Spring 2011 shows, you can pair one of these bold shades with an equally as daring lip color—be it berry, red, or pink—or keep it simple with a touch of coral gloss. I love Make Up For Ever's new Aqua Liners in 4 (a glittering blue/green) and 5 (a sparkly turquoise), or if you prefer pencil—Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Peacock or CoverGirl LiquilineBlast Eyeliner in Blue Boom are both great, bright, long-lasting options.

Lips One of the easiest ways to go bright is with a bolder lip. You can do full pigment here or go with a bright color but in a sheer formula. Within Bobbi Brown’s line, there is lipstick ($23) in shades of Neon Pink and Atomic Orange that will put your pout front and center, and lip-gloss in Citrus ($23) that goes on as a sheer wash although it looks bright orange in the tube.
It gives you pop, but not over the top. No matter which way you go, but especially with the full coverage lip, you need to keep the rest of the face plain. Perfect your skin with primer and foundation or a BB cream. On eyes, use mascara and either no shadow or a pale beige and then do your lip. If you want, a very light dusting of blush can be used, but make it so light that it’s truly barely there. A cream-gel blush would be perfect in this instance.

Neon colors are going to be hot this upcoming season. Although the thought of Neon Colors brings you back to the 80′s it wont be that drastic. Bright colors, especially somewhat neon colors, on the lips are very hot right now!
A neon orange lipstick. With matte skin, a bit of bronzer, and lots of black mascara, a bright orange lipstick looks fashion forward—not like you just kissed a traffic cone (I promise). Start with a natural-colored lip liner to keep the edges of your mouth clean, and paint the color on with a lip brush, which will help with precision. Some of my favorite shades? Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Mandarina, M.A.C. Lipstick in Morange, and for a really bold hue—Lime Crime Lipstick in My Beautiful Rocket, a pastel neon orange that is surprisingly flattering—just make sure to leave both your clothes and makeup neutral.

A bright pink blush. If you've checked out our July issue already, you'll know we're all about playing up your blush this summer.
A neon shade may sound intimidating, but if it's a sheer cream formula, I promise you won't end up looking like a clown. Yves Saint Laurent Creme de Blush in Fuchsia Temptation is a bright pink as you can get, but its cream-to-powder formula smoothes over cheeks seamlessly so it blends beautifully with your skin.
The flush it leaves is vivid, but sophisticated when applied on the center of your apples and blended up along the cheekbones. Pair it with black mascara and a sheer pink gloss.

You CAN Wear Neon
Jen Kao: Electric LipsBright, bold lips? Check. The cheerful burst of color at Jen Kao served as a vibrant counterpoint to the neutral tones seen lately. To create the high-impact shade, Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist Charlotte Willer layered on two shades—Maybelline Color Sensation Lipcolor in Coral Crush and Are You Red-dy—to form a glossy hue that could be spotted from the back rows.
Jason Wu: Statement Lips
Bright orange-red lipstick made a stunning appearance at Jason Wu, painted on by the expert hand of makeup artist Diane Kendal. Her inspiration was pop art, which she brilliantly illustrated by lining lips with a vivid scarlet pencil and lipstick, topped off with a finger-smudge of neon orange loose pigment for extra zing. Since the latter isn’t easy to find beyond the kits of professional makeup artists, a pat of concentrated coral eye shadow works as a suitable substitution in your palette.
