New Royal Hotness takes Cannes! Charlotte Casiraghi of Monaco dazzles on the red carpet

Charlotte Casiraghi arrives with French actor Charles Berling

She attended the screening with French actor Charles Berlin, who gripped her arm protectively as he led her down the red carpet.
Charlotte was announced as the face of Gucci in March and has already shot an equestrian-styled campaign for the brand.
It was through their love of horses that Charlotte bonded with Gucci creative director Frida Giannini.

Her grandmother was considered the most beautiful woman in the world, and Charlotte Casiraghi is clearly following in her footsteps.

The Monaco royal easily eclipsed the Hollywood stars when she attended a screening of Once Upon A Time In American in Cannes on Friday.
The 25-year-old only lives up the road, and she popped down to grace the red carpet.

By Royal invitation: Charlotte Casiraghi attended the screening of Once Upon A Time In America in Cannes on Friday night.

Star attraction: The beauty easily eclipsed the Hollywood stars in her green Gucci gown

Princess Caroline's daughter is the face of the Italian fashion house, and did a stellar job as their ambassador in the design.
Charlotte accessorised with stacked gold bangles and strappy heels, and cascading curls that tumbled around her shoulders.

Charlotte dazzled in a ruffled gown by Gucci, which featured a deep V-neckline and a thigh-high slit.

Giannini told Grazia in March: 'Over the last two years I have had the pleasure and privilege to get to know Charlotte through our shared passion for horses.
'She not only embodies the beauty and the grace of the equestrian, but is also a wonderful ambassador for the sport.'
Miss Casiraghi was equally full of praise for Ms Giannini, adding: 'I admire Frida’s talent as a designer and she has really managed to reinvent the codes of Gucci by giving them a modern twist and a timeless elegance.'

 Cannes Day 1: Eva Longoria
Never afraid of a little drama, Eva chose a quintessential Marchesa gown with a long train and lots of lace.

Cannes Day 2: Eva Longoria
As one of L'Oréal's leading ladies, Eva is hitting all the big events in Cannes. This time she went for a slinky, sexy Pucci dress.

 Cannes Day 1: Tilda Swinton
Tilda is a huge Haider Ackermann fan, so it's no surprise she picked this bronze number straight from the fall 2012 runway.

 Cannes Day 3: Jessica Chastain
Keeping with her super-feminine sartorial theme for this year's festival, Jessica picked a floral Dolce & Gabbana for the Madagascar 3 photo call.

Festival de Cannes - From 16 to 27 may 2012

Every May Hollywood's A-List heads to the south of France for a couple weeks of movies and lavish parties. We'd much rather be there in person, but instead will admire the fashion finery from afar.

Cannes Day 3: Diane Kruger
Every day, this lady steps it up another fashion notch. How cool is this look from Balmain?

Cannes Day 2: Marion Cotillard
We've missed seeing you, Marion! But what a delight you are in Dior. We love the yellow shoe choice.

Cannes Day 2: Jessica Chastain
Jessica picked a short coral Calvin Klein for the party, proving that the color definitely does work for redheads. And we must say we love seeing her in that sleek bun.

Cannes Day 2: Naomi Watts
it's hard to believe Naomi is the mother of two when you see her in this nude Calvin Klein dress.

Cannes Day 3: Jada Pinkett Smith
Jada's in on the sheer trend too. We bet this turquoise Alberta Ferretti is almost the same color as the sea in Cannes.

Cannes Day 2: Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson
Every time Pacey and Diane — yes, we will always call him Pacey —step out together, it's cuter than the time before. Who wouldn't want look like these two all decked in Calvin Klein?

Cannes Day 2: Beth Ditto
Leave it to Gossip's Beth Ditto to shake things up on the red carpet. It just seems right that she opted for all black.

Cannes Day 2: Freida Pinto
Oh how I wish I could pull off this color. This Atelier Versace looks amazing on Ms. Pinto!

Cannes Day 2: Jane Fonda
Do you think Jane Fonda's still using her '80s workout videos? Because whatever she's doing is paying off. This black and white gown wouldn't look nearly as good on actresses half her age.

Cannes Day 2: Melissa George
Melissa goes all in on the sheer trend. We're not sure if it's a total success.

Cannes Day 1: Diane Kruger
For an early morning photo call judge Diane Kruger chose the same Versus dress that Jessica Alba is wearing on our June Cover. Great minds! PS: We're so happy Diane's a judge because it means a daily dose of one of our favorite fashion girls.

Cannes Day 1: Diane Kruger, Part Deux
For the opening night festivities, Diane changed it up, opting for an ethereal mint Giambattista Valli gown. We only have one question: Where is Pacey?

Cannes Day 1: Eva Herzigova
Eva looks divine in pink lace Dolce & Gabbana. And oh what we wouldn't give to drape ourselves in those Chopard jewels. Sigh.

Cannes Day 1: Freida Pinto
We love the pink peplum on Frieda's super spring-y Michael Angel dress.

Cannes Day 1: Jessica Chastain
Jessica Chastain looks fresh and springy in Alexander McQueen. Bonus points for designing those handy pockets, Sarah Burton.

Cannes Day 1: Lana del Rey
While we're not exactly clear on why Lana is at the big film festival, we love the scalloped neck on her Alberta Ferretti dress.

Cannes Day 1: Jane Fonda
If we're still rocking (and looking fantastic in) Atelier Versace at Jane's age, we'll be insanely happy.

Cannes Day 1: Virginie Ledoyen
Virginie is one of France's leading ladies and she represents well in a simply chic jewel-toned dress.

We're all hooked on fishtails: The divas make a dramatic fashion statement from the red carpet in Cannes ...

Only the most show-stopping, eye-popping glamour will do at the Cannes Film Festival, the world’s biggest fashion photo-opportunity.

And this year, Hollywood A-listers seeking to make a splash are taking their inspiration from the sea.

The red carpet has been dominated by dresses featuring a dramatic fishtail silhouette – figure-hugging around the bodice, waist and hips but flared out from the knee and finishing with a flowing train.

Black beauty: Spanish actress Paz Vega draws gasps in her daring monochrome Stephane Rolland gown with a keyhole bodice and skirt with a feathered fishtail

Timeless elegance: Jane Fonda, left, may be 74, but she looks decades younger in her shimmering Atelier Versace bronze gown, which shows off her tiny waist, while Eva Longoria, right, looks every inch the retro Hollywood siren in an Emilio Pucci creation

Catch of the day: Chinese actress Fan Bingbing pays homage to her heritage in a Christopher Bu gown

Stars including Eva Longoria and  Jane Fonda have taken advantage of the effect the shape has on a woman’s figure, with Ms Longoria dazzling in a sleek white version with a plunging neckline by Emilio Pucci and Ms Fonda defying her years in a skin-tight bronze version by Atelier Versace.

Mermaid-style dresses, which were at their peak of popularity during the Hollywood golden era, began making a comeback at the Golden Globes in January, when a host of actresses including Reese Witherspoon and Rooney Mara turned up wearing the shape.

Now, with every big-name designer from Christian Dior to Vera Wang, Marchesa and Zac Posen featuring it in their collections, the fishtail frock has become the look of the year.

The style dates back to the Victorian era, when Charles Frederick Worth, the British designer known as the father of haute couture, made dresses with hems which skimmed the top of the feet at the front and flowed on to the ground at the back.

Topped and tailed: The previous night, the Desperate House stunned in a Marchesa fantasy

To bead or not to bead: Salma Hayek, left, maximises her assets in Gucci with beaded bodice and chiffon skirt, while Inglorious Basterds star Diane Kruger scales the heights in a billowing Giambattista Valli gown

During the Fifties it became the design that starlets including Jayne Mansfield and Marilyn Monroe chose when they wanted to showcase their curves with maximum impact.

The mermaid style is a look which oozes old-school glamour, and its comeback reflects the recent resurgence in demand for fashion which celebrates women’s bodies.

‘After years of the pencil-thin, androgynous silhouette being fashionable, we are seeing a welcome return of a more womanly shape in Hollywood,’ says fashion expert Karen Kay.

‘Fashion is reacting to the changing mood, with designers responding to the demand for dresses which celebrate curves with the dramatic fishtail skirts we’ve seen in Cannes.’

Cannes Style: Chic Neutrals!

Stars are putting it in neutral at Cannes! Vanessa Hudgens (left) chose a sand-hued Fendi gown for The Art of Elysium 3rd Annual Paradis event, while Rachel McAdams (center) turned up the sparkle at the premiere of Sleeping Beauty in a khaki embellished Monique Lhuillier bustier top and matching wide-leg pants.

And Rosario Dawson (right) hit the red carpet at Calvin Klein‘s Cannes bash in a putty-colored frock by the designer. Click through the gallery to see how Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie and more made these otherwise day-friendly hues ultra glam!
